Bluetooth devices are missing from Device Manager - ThinkPad

Symptom

Bluetooth devices are missing from Device Manager after restart.

Solution

User needs to update the Bluetooth device driver to the latest using either of the following methods:

Device Manager Method:

  1. Power-on and boot to Windows.
  2. Get the latest Bluetooth driver and Wireless LAN driver from Lenovo Support (support.lenovo.com) web page. For more information on drivers, click one of the following:
  3. Open Device manager and disable the Wireless LAN driver.
  4. Reboot the system.
  5. Reopen Device manager. The Bluetooth device will be shown.
  6. Update the Bluetooth driver and Wireless LAN driver.
  7. Reboot the system.
  8. Open Device Manager and enable the Wireless LAN device.

BIOS method:

  1. Boot to Windows.
  2. Obtain the latest Bluetooth driver and Wireless LAN driver from Lenovo Support (support.lenovo.com) web page. For more information on drivers, click one of the following:
  3. Reboot the system. When the Lenovo logo is displayed, press the F1 key to go BIOS Setup. Go to Security -> I/O Port Access page, then disable the Wireless LAN.
  4. Press F10 to save and exit the BIOS setup.
  5. Open Device manager. The Bluetooth device will be shown.
  6. Update the Bluetooth driver and Wireless LAN driver.
  7. Reboot the system.
  8. Go into BIOS Setup again and enable the Wireless LAN.
  9. Press F10 to Save & Exit the BIOS setup.

Additional Information

The Bluetooth device may hang while using any Bluetooth device. This is because the WiFi (WLAN) device may send an unsupported command to the Bluetooth device when WiFi is configured to use 2.4 GHz band.
